Your eyes may deceive you. These artworks mounted professionally on matt board beneath a glass framed with acacia wood may look like the works of an expert colorist in working in oils, but, in fact this artwork was produced by textile masters allowed to experiment in their favorite medium. The abstracted blues of this piece employ two techniques to convey their impression. A hand applied die at the center contrasts with parallel wedges of indigo dyed applique that must be affixed to the pooling ground cloth. The contrast of soft and hard even layer on layer draws the viewer in as if the indigo wedges suggest some relation to the gently expanding pool of blue.
